the subscripts depends on the medium at which the substance is used or produced in a chemical reaction   its not important to mark the subscripts in every balancing equation...if the question asks u to...u must

PARZIVALknight: no bro ...i mean why there is always 2 with hydrogen and 1 with oxygen
PARZIVALknight: i mean in most of the situations
ayishalemin9: its bcz...........
PARZIVALknight: becoz???

I think u are talking about the subscript 2 in H₂, O₂, Cl₂ and so on.

This is because those individually with the subscripts signifies a molecule of that element, while without the subscript it signifies an atom of that element.

For example if anyone tells u to write a hydrogen atom, the answer will be H.

But if it is told to write a hydrogen molecule, the correct answer will be H₂.

This is only because 2 hydrogen atoms bind together to form an hydrogen molecule. Just like Cl₂, O₂, N₂ etc.

In case of chemical compounds, subscript signifies the number of atoms of that particular element took part in the formation of it. Like in H₂SO₄; 2 atoms of hydrogen 1 atom of sulphur and 4 atoms of oxygen took part.
