In China, elections are held after every five years. In spite of this, China does not have a democratic government. Why?
Answers
We know,
Democracy is the form of government in which the rulers or the leaders of the country are chosen by the people. And, According to Abhram Lincoln, Democracy is the form of government of the people, for the people and by the people.
Features of Democracy:
- Major decisions are to be taken by leaders elected by the people.
- The Electoral system is free and fair.
- One person, one vote, one value
- Rule of law and respect to rights.
For being a successful democratic nation, a nation should follow the above features and criteria for being a democratic country.
In case of China,
We already knew that, a Democracy must be based on free and fair electoral system where the choice of political leaders to become the leader is given to the people. But In China,
- The elections are regularly held after every five years for electing the country's parliament called National People's Congress.
- But here, it was observed that government is always formed by the Chinese Communist Party(CCP).
- Also before contesting or participating in elections, a person needs approval of the CCP. And, Do you know? In 2002-03, members who belong to CCP and small other parties were allowed to contest.
Conclusion:
❒ Although, China is having regular elections, it can't be considered to be a democratic nation because it is violating a important feature of democracy, that is free and fair electoral competition.

Answer:
It is true that in China, there are elections held after every 5 years but in spite China does not have a democratic government because China had a famine, in the year 1958 to 1961 .
Explanation:
This shows that if China had multiple selections and opposition party and a press free to criticize the government then so many people may not have died in the famine. China does not have all these that's why China is not a democratic country.
