· 2005 – KIE introduces ICT in educational institutions
· 2006 – NEPAD e-Africa Commission launches projects to develop ICT in schools at primary and secondary levels. Gradually it was implemented in all Rwandan secondary schools.
· 2009 – Rwanda Education Commons (REC) is started as a 4-year program to promote ICT in education. Funded by the USAID, it was successful project and ICT expanded in the education goals. One Laptop Per Child project was also initiated by the Ministry of Education.
· 2015 – 1200 students were trained in ICT related programs.
· 2016 – 14,000 students were trained in ICT related programs.
In Rwanda the Ministry of Education has made a lot of efforts to promote the use of Information and Communication Technology in schools. It has taken steps to implement the One Laptop Per Child project in the country.
· The Rwanda Education Commons is a four year program which aims to promote the effective use of ICTs in education. It is funded by USAID.
· In January 2009 the REC office was opened.
· The REC has designed an online education platform.
· It provides a digital library of high quality resources related to the curriculum. Over 1.630 teachers use it on a regular basis.
· Students learn online through the Africa Virtual University.
· In October 2006, NEPAD e-Africa Commission launched a project to promote ICT in the schools in Rwanda.
· The Kigali Institute of Science and Technology and Kigali Institute of Education are involved in ICT education. The KIE has been associated with the EdQual project since 2005.
· The EdQual initiative has been working with the teachers of 12 primary and secondary schools in Rwanda.
