In Class 10 NCERT, the following equations are given:
1 ♦ Metal + Water → Metal oxide + Hydrogen
2 ♦ Metal oxide + Water → Metal hydroxide
1 ♠ Sodium + Water → Sodium Hydroxide + Hydrogen
2 ♠ Sodium oxide + Water → Sodium hydroxide
Here, equations (2 ♦) and (2 ♠) seem to match up, but eqn (1 ♠) is not fitting with either eqn (1 ♦) or eqn (2 ♦).
Can someone please explain this to me?

Answer:
this concept is based on class 10th NCERT chapter 3 metals and nonmetals...
here the first equation is not fitted with either one or two because in one or two we want metal oxide plus hydrogen or else metal hydroxide only but in that first equation we get metal hydroxide + hydrogen which we does not want so it is not fitted with either of them vi that second equation is perfectly matched because it only gives metal hydroxide which is needed...
hope this helps you...

Answer:
Metals react with cold water and gives metal hydroxide and hydrogen.
For example, sodium reacts with cold water and gives sodium hydroxide and hydrogen gas.
2Na+2H
2O→2NaOH+H 2
