in class of 30 students 19 studying french 12 studying spanish and 9 studying both. How many students are not taking any foriegn subjects?
Answers
→ Let the no. of student in class be set U
Set F be the set of student who studing the french
Set S be the set of student who studing the Spanish
9 students studing the both french & Spanish
i.e. F Π S=9 .....(Π = intersection)
set F=19
set S =9
No. of student not taking foreign language
i.e.n(FΠS)'=?
We know that n(AUB)=n(A)+n(B)- n(AΠB)
n(FUS)=n(F)+n(S)- n(FΠS)
= 19+9-9
= 19
No. of student who study the foriegn language =19
No. of student who doesn't study foriegn language
n(FΠS)= U - n(AUB)
= 30-19
= 11
•°• 11 student not taking any foreign subject
