A legend of the northland is the story about the life nearer to the northern pole in which long nights, dark nights and short days are experienced leading to lack of sleep. Because of extreme cold children look like bear’s cubs in because of funny and furry clothes. Even with lack of faith in the mythological story, yet the poet decided to narrate it. The story is that of a hungry person seeking food from an old lady, who, due to greed ends up rebaking small cakes only to bake an even smaller one. She infuriates the man, Saint Peter, who curses and therefore she results in being cursed as a bird wandering for food. Ultimately teaching the lesson of greed being costly, as a moral.

This legend narrates an incident when Saint Peter was travelling in the cold regions of Northland and he was tried and hungry.He saw a little lady baking cakes in a cottage. He asked her to give him one of her cakes so that he could satisfy his hunger.The woman was selfish and uncharitable.She did not want to give away her cake for free.
so she baked a really small cake but did not have the magnanimity to even give that to Saint Peter. she kept baking cakes cakes each smaller than the first one till she finally baked one that was as thin as wafer.But didn't give that to saint peter as she felt that too was very big.
