In cold countries animals remain alive even after the rivers or lakes freeze in water

ANSWER:

It is possible for aquatic animals to remain alive even though rivers and lakes freeze in winter because not the whole water bodies freezes. In cold countries the temperature of the water body decreases as a result of which ice is formed at the top . However water at the bottom does not freeze up.
