Ethylene Glycol is used in car radiators as it increases the freezing temperature significantly ( antifreeze). For example, in a mix of 60% Ethylene glycol with 40% water - will freeze at -45 degree C instead of the normal 0 degree C for pure water.
On the other hand, the addition of ethylene glycol to water, increases the boiling point again significantly. Thus the coolant using this can work well in freezing winter as well as in scorching summer.
