Hey friend,
Here's your answer.
1) In some countries, in winter, the atmospheric temperature falls well below 0 degree C.
2) Due to such fall in atmospheric temperature, the water in the pipelines starts cooling.
3) When the temperature of water falls below 4 degree Celsius , it starts to expands. Thus it's volume increases.
4) It expands even at 0 degree C i.e. when it changes into ice.The volume of ice is more than that of water.
5) Due to increased volume and comparatively less area to expand, this ice exerts tremendous pressure on the pipelines.
6) Therefore,in the cold regions, in winter ,the pipes carrying water break and even crack up.

during winter water pipelines often brust in cold countries because water freezes at sub zero temperature and thus it expand (anomalous expansion of water).Since there is no space within the pipes expanding ice exerts tremendous pressure and burst open the water pipelines.
