In countries nearer to polar region, the roads are sprinkled with CaCl2. This is

Calcium chloride is used for melting the ice on the roads because an addition of the salt there is depreciation in the freezing point. . according to the colligative properties.

Hence the snow melts by decreasing the temperature from zero degree to the below zero degree.
