Distance covered, d = 40 km.

Let,

v1 and t1 be Kamlesh’s speed and time of travel.

v2 and t2 be Pankaj’s speed and and time of travel.

t1 = d/v1 = 40/v1

t2 = d/v2 = 40/v2

Kamlesh takes 2 hours more than Pankaj

t1 = t2+2

(40/v1) = (40/v2)+2 ——(1)

If Kamlesh doubles his speed, then he would take 1 hour less than Pankaj.

d/(2v1) = (d/v2)-1

40/(2v1) = (40/v2)-1 ——(2)

Substituting the value of (40/v2) in terms of (40/v1),

40/(2v1) = [(40/v1)-2]-1

v1= 40/6 = 6.66 km/h
