Cuscuta is a class of parasitic plants. They grow in the soil with normal plant roots. But as it grows, if it encounters a plant in its surrounding from which it can obtain food and water, then Cuscuta develops these specialized roots called haustoria which penetrates into the host plant. In that case, the original soil roots die off.
Hence, haustoria are specialized roots present only in parasitic plants.
