In each of the following ,find the value of 'k' for which the points are collinear

(7 , - 2 ) , ( k , 3 ) and ( -1 , 6) respectively.​

Solution: Given: A(1, -1) (x1,y1)

B(5,2) (x2, y2)

C(9,5) (x3, y3)

Method 1 :

AC=AB+BC (here use distance formula, and then if it comes LHS=RHS) hence we proved

Method 2:

Use Area of triangle formula (here we should take LHS as '0')

0=1/2[x1(y2-y3) + x2(y3-y1) + x3(y1-y2)]

(Do until LHS=RHS)

Then, hence it is proved that points are co-linear
