Step-by-step explanation:

Given that, in an election, the votes cast for two of the candidates were in the ratio 5:7.

Let the number of votes cast for the candidates be 5x and 7x.

Successful candidate means one who won the elections i.e one with higher votes.

So, According to question, 7 x =20734

x =  20734  / 7

=2962

Number of votes received by opponent candidate = 5x=5×2962=14810 votes

for finding out we have to add 5 and 7 we will get 12 and know divide 12 with

15,120 u will get 1,260 and know multiply it by 5 and 7 u will get :

1 opponen 5 = 6,300

2 opponen 7 = 8,820

so 2 opponen get more votes
