in 12 hrs D walks=12y km

∴12y-12.5=11x...........(i)

in 7 hrs c walks=7x km

now....

∴7x-3.25=5y................(ii)

Solving equations (i) and (ii)

from (I)

$12y = 11x + 12.5 = > 60y = 55x + 62.5$

from(ii)

$5y = 7x - 3.25 = > 60y = 84x - 39$

so....

$60y = 55x + 62.5 \\ 60y = 84x - 39 \\ ................................ \\ 0 = - 29x + 101.5 \\ = > x = \frac{101.5}{29} \\ = > x = 3.5 \: \: km \\ \\ and \\ y = \frac{7(3.5) - 3.25}{5} \\ = > y = 4.25 \: km$
