Hello..!!

Question-:

In England the populations increased 15.9%, between 1871 and 1881 ; if the town population increased to 19% and the country population to 4% , compare the town and country populations in the year 1871.

Answer-:

Since the increased population of the town and the country is not given:-

⇒ Let the increased town population be = x

⇒ Let the increased country population be = z

Solution-:

We have to add the town and the country population to find out the total increased population..

Then-:

x +z

⇒ Town population (increase) = \frac{18x}{100}

⇒ Country population (increase) = \frac{4z}{100}

The increase in the total population will be = \frac{15.9}{100}

So-:

⇒  \frac{18x}{100} +\frac{4z}{100} = \frac{15.9}{100}

15.9x +15.9z

2.1x =11.9z

\frac{x}{z} =\frac{11.9}{2.1}=\frac{17}{3}

The increased population is = \frac{17}{3}

→ Hope it helps you..
