Given: Sudents who failed in the exam = 45%

           Number of students who passed the exam = 550

To find: Total number of students who appeared in exam

Let: Total number of students be x

Solution: Given that 45% of total students failed in the exam. It means that rest 55% must have passed the exam.

Also, Number of students who passed the exam = 550

i.e. 55% of total students (x) = 550

\frac{55}{100} x = 550

x = \frac{550 \ * \ 100}{55} = 1,000

Hence, total number of students who appeared in exam is 1,000.
