Given : In Examination, 50% passed in Maths and 75% passed in English and 20% pa ssed in both subjects .

270 students pa ssed in both the subjects.

To Find :  the difference between the number of students who pa ssed only in English to those who pa ssed in Maths.

Solution:

Pa ssed in Maths  n(M) = 50%

Pa ssed in English  n(E) = 75%

Pa ssed in Both  n(M ∩ E) = 20%

pa ssed only in English = n(E) -  n(M ∩ E)

=  75% - 20

= 55 %

Pa ssed in Maths = 50%

Difference =  55 % - 50%  = 5 %

270 students pa ssed in both the subjects.

20%  students pa ssed in both the subjects.

=> 20%  = 270

=> 1 %  = 270/20

=> 5% = 5 * 270/20    = 67.5

Students can not be in decimal  ( Mistake in Data)

Note : ( Given data of Question is not Correct ,

as pa ss in either subject =  50 % + 75 % - 20 %  = 105 %  which is not possible  as it can not be more than 100 %
