In Fig. 11.17, ABCD is a trapezium with AB || DC, AB = 18 cm, DC = 32 cm
and distance between AB and DC = 14 cm. If arcs of equal radii 7 cm with
centres A, B, C and D have been drawn, then find the area of the shaded region
of the figure.

196 cm²  is the area of the shaded region of the figure.

Step-by-step explanation:

Area of trapezium  = (1/2) (AB + CD) *  distance between AB and DC

= (1/2)( 18 + 32) * 14

= 50 * 7

= 350 m²

Area of arcs = (∠A/360) π 7 ² +   (∠B/360) π 7² + (∠C/360) π 7 ² +   (∠D/360) π 7²

= (( ∠A + ∠B + ∠C + ∠D)/360) π 7 ²

= (360/360)  π 7 ²

= π 7 ²

= (22/7) * 7²

= 154  cm²

find the area of the shaded region of the figure.  = 350 - 154

= 196 cm²
