The area of the shaded region is 72.665 cm².

To find : Area of the shaded region.

Given :

From the figure,

AB = 12 m

AD = 5 m

\pi = 3.14

Formula :

Area of circle = \pi

Area of rectangle = length × breadth

To find the area of rectangle :

Area of rectangle, ABCD = length × breadth

                 Length = 12 m  ; Breadth = 5 m

Area of rectangle = 12 × 5 = 60 m.

To find area of circle :

To find radius of the circle, by using pythagoras theorem

Let the diameter be diagonal BD.

BD² = AB² + AD²

      = (12)² + (5)²

      = 144 + 25

BD² = 169

BD = \sqrt{169}

BD = 13.

Radius = \frac{Diameter}{2} =\frac{13}{2} =6.5

Area of circle = \pir² = \pi \times 6.5 \times6.5

Area of circle = 42.25\pi cm²

To find the area of the shaded region :

Area of shaded region = Area of circle - Area of rectangle

                                      = (42.25 × 3.14) - 60    (π = 3.14)

                                      = 132.665 - 60

                                      = 72.665 cm²

Therefore, the area of the shaded region is 72.665 cm².
