In fig ABCD is a triangle. find value of x and y

x-y =14.....(i)
x+y=30.......(ii)
so, x=14+y....(iii)
in equ ii,
14+y+y=30
14+2y=30
2y=16
y=8

so x =14+y
=14+8
=22

In the given figure ABCD is a rectangle.

∴ AB = CD
& BC = AD
(∵ Opp. sides of a rectangle are equal)

∴ 30 = x +y..........1st
& 14 = x - y.........2nd

Now, by solving both the questions by elimination method

  x + y = 30
  x - y  = 14
__________
  2x     = 44
  ∴ x = 22 cm

Now, substituting x = 22 in equation 1

x + y = 30
22+ y = 30
∴ y = 8 cm

∴ x = 22 cm and y = 8 cm
