By the theorem if the perpendicular is drawn to a right triangle then the triangle formed will be similar to each other.

Therefore triangle BCD similar to triangle ACD

therefore we can take ratio

AD/CD=CD/BD.

By cross multiplication we get

CD^2=BD.AD
