angle a+ 40° + 40° = 180°

now in triangles bad and cad

ab=ac given

bd=cd as as is the median

angle b= angle c as we found

so by the SAS criteria, triangles bad and cad are congruent

so angle bad=angle cad

but angle bad+angle cad= 100°

so 2 x angle bad= 100°

so angle bad= 100°/2

angle bad= 50°
