in fig given below, ABCD is a Rectangle . Find the value of x and y?

x+y=30cm--------eq1

x-y=14cm-----------eq2

adding  eq 1 and eq 2 we get

2x=44

x=22

using value of x in eq 1

22+y=30

y=8 cm

by the question we can knew that

x+y= 30  ( as the opposite sides of rectangle are equal)

x-y= 14

by elimination method

we get 2x = 44

x=22

and substituting it in x+y= 30

22+y=30

y=30-22

y=8

therefore we get

x=22 & y=8
