Area of shaded region = ar of square ABCD - ar of triangle

Ar of square = a2
= 40 ×40
= 1600cm

ar of triangle = 1/2 × base × height
1/2 × 40 ×40
= 800 cm

ar of shaded reg. = 1600 - 800
= 800 cm

So, ar of shaded region = 800 cm
