Given :

angles x, y and z.

To find

Value of z in terms of x and y.

Solution:

Sum of angles of a traingle = 180°

In the given figure

∠ opposite to ∠ z = z ( vertically opposite angles)

∠ adjusant to ∠ y = ( 180 - ang y )

( linear pair angles)

∠ adjusant to ∠ x = ( 180 - ang x )

( linear pair angles)

Therefore

∠z + (180 - y) + (180 - x) = 180°

( sum of interior angles of a traingle is 180° )

∠ z + 360 - y - x = 180°

∠ z + 360 - 180 = ∠ x + ∠y

∠ z + 180 = º∠x +∠ y

∠ z = 180 - x - y

∠ z = 180 - ( x + y )

Hence value of z in terms of x and y is

z = 180 - ( x + y )
