Different chemicals are used in fireworks which give them different colours. The green colour that we see in the fireworks is due to the presence of barium Chloride (BaCl2).
This is based on the phenomenon of incandescence, which is the phenomenon by which elements emit different colours on heating (just like iron turns red on being heated and then white-hot as the temperature rises).
