The sales in the 6th is Rs. 77000.

Given:

The first five months sales in Rs. of a store are 54000, 62000, 55000, 40000 and 72000. The average sales of the first six months are Rs. 60000.

To Find:

The sales in 6th month.

Solution:

The average of observations is computed by adding all the observations and then dividing the resultant by the number of observations.

Add 54000, 62000, 55000, 40000 and 72000.54000+62000+55000+40000+72000=283000

Let the sales in the 6th month be x. Add 283000 and x, and then divide by 6 because the total of 6 months has been taken into observation.

\frac{283000+x}{6}

Equate the above-obtained expression to 60000 and find x.

\frac{283000+x}{6}=60000\\283000+x=360000\\x=360000-283000\\=77000

Thus, the sales in the 6th is Rs. 77000.
