Given : In first mixture, quantity of milk was 6 lit more than that of water. After adding 40 ltr of second mixture (having ratio of water to milk 3:5) in the first mixture, ratio of water to milk in the final mixture becomes 9:13.

To Find: the total quantity of water in the final mixture

Solution:

In first mixture, quantity of milk was 6 lit more than that of water.

Water  =  x  lit

Milk = x + 6  lit

40 ltr of second mixture (having ratio of water to milk 3:5)

3 + 5 = 8

watre = (3/8) * 40  = 15 lit

Milk = (5/8) * 40  = 25 lit

Total water = 15 + x  lit

Total Milk =   x + 6 + 25  = x + 31 lit

ratio of water to milk in the final mixture becomes 9:13.

=>  (15 + x)/(x + 31)  = 9/13

=> 195 + 13x  = 9x  + 279

=> 4x  = 84

=> x = 21

total quantity of water in the final mixture. = x + 15  lit

= 21 + 15  = 36  lit

total quantity of water in the final mixture. is  36  lit
