In five kingdom classification, Blue green algae was not considered in kingdom Plantae.

  • R.H. Whittaker in 1969 proposed the five kindom classification of organisms.
  • Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia are the five kingdoms of his classification.
  • Plantae includes thallophyta (algae), bryophyta, pteridophyta, gymnosperms, and angiosperms.
  • Algae further consists of three forms: green, brown, and red algae. Cyanobacteria are commonly known as blue green algae but they are not truly plants.
