The Sibley commission is linked to Brown v. Board of Education.
- In 1950, the Brown v. Board of Education began. This included Linda Brown, an African American student who decided to attend an all-white academy. However, her appeal was refused.
- Although the principle stated that schooling should be separate but in a previous case it was settled as equal, Brown argued that this was not the real case and was being ignored.
- In 1954, the decision of the Court was to compromise with the Browns by upholding the 14th amendment, specifying there equal treatment in the schools, but also ordered desegregation at schools.
- Georgia had declined to comply after Court's decision. Thus, in 1960, John Sibley formed the Sibley Commission to ask people what their thoughts were regarding the decision of desegregation.
