(a). Here, Equivalent Resistance of R1 and R2 is 14Ω
Then, I = V/R
I = 5/14
and, V = IR
V = 5/14 ×8
V = 2.85V
Hence, Potential difference across 8Ω resistor is 2.85V
(b). Lets third resistor be R, using trial method put the value of R =4Ω then
Equivalent resistance of second and third resistor is 0.41Ω
Since, potential difference of 6Ω resistor is dropped from 6Ω to 0.41Ω therefore, potential difference of 8Ω will be smaller
