Given : RT = 1 cm  , OQ = 3 cm

To Find : Area of the shaded region

Solution:

Pythagoras' theorem:

"Square on the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle is equal to the

sum of the squares of the other two perpendicular sides."

OS² = OR² + RS²

RS = OQ = 3 cm

OR = a cm

OT = OR + RT = a + 1 cm

OS = OT = radius = a + 1 cm

=> (a + 1)² = a² + 3²

=> a² + 2a + 1 = a² + 9

=> 2a = 8

=> a = 4

OR = 4 cm

=> OT =a +1  = 4 + 1 = 5 cm

Radius = 5 cm

Area of Quarter circle = (1/4)πr²

= (1/4)(3.14)5²

= 19.625  cm²

Area of rectangle = 3 x 4  = 12 cm²

Area of the shaded region is   19.625 - 12   = 7.625 cm²

Area of the shaded region is  7.625 cm²
