In Graphic page- the mean age of a group of 40 students is 17.45 years. find x and y.

Mean=sum of all observation/total number of observation

so,

17.45=15X3+16x+17X9+18X11+19y/40

698=45+16x+153+198+19y+60

698=456+16x+19

242=16x+18y---- [eq(1)]

Total number of student are 40 so,

3+x+9+11+y+3=40

x+y=14---[eq(2)]

from eq(1) and (2)

16x+19y=242

3y=18y

y=6

Put the value of y in eq (2)

x+6=14

x=14-6

=8

so,

x=8&y=6
