Janmejay was a Kuru king. He was the son of King Parikshit. He ruled during the Vedic period. The Aitareya Brahmana tells us that he was anointed with the great anointing of Indra by his priest Tura Kavasheya. His descendants are known as Tur. We come to know from the Shatapatha Brahmana that he performed an ashwamedha yajna at Asandivat which was the capital of the Kuru kingdom. It is identified with Assandh in Haryana.
