In heredity crosses, when we work out a cross b/w tall plants and short plants, why do we write it as TT(for tall) and tt(for short) and why cant we write T and t and cross them?

Like this - T x t, why do we do it with TT and tt?

i think it is because to get the f1 generation we took two contrasting characters from each parent so from parent 1 we took dominant one which is TT and other one is recessive i.e tt
