Griffith used two types of pneumonia bacteria R-stain(harmless) & S-stain(disease inducing) and injected these 2 in mice in combination(heat killed or healthy).
Griffith found that the harmless R-stain of the bacteria was changed into a pneumonia causing S-stain bacteria by the process transformation in which genetic material DNA was transferred from heat killed S-stain to healthy R-stain bacteria. This change from R-stain to S-stain is permanent.
