1024

How many ways can 5 prizes be distributed among 4 students, where each is eligible for all the 5 prizes ? (i.e. repetition allowed) The answer says 1024, which I guess is coming from 45. So its like "4 students fit into each prize" + repeats allowed + 5 prizes =45=1024.

Answer:

1024

Step-by-step explanation:

First prize can be given to any one of the 4 boys, so it can be given in 4 ways. Second prize can also be given in 4 ways, as the boy getting first prize can also get the second. Similarly, third prize can be given in 4 ways and so on.

Hence, the total number of ways in which a boy can get any number of prizes = 4 × 4 × 4 x 4 x 4 =1024.
