Answer:

Let the number of 5 rupee notes be x,then

The number of 10 rupee notes =90−x

Then ,according to the question

5x+10(90−x)=500

5x+900−10x=500

5x=400

x=80

There are 80 notes of Rs.5 and 10 notes of Rs.10.

Given: The condition that she has only 16 notes of Rs 20.

only 16 notes of Rs 20

To Find: In how many ways can X give Rs 500 to Y using only Rs 100 and Rs 20 notes

Solution:

Let the Total amount in Rs.20 notes=16*20=Rs.320 (as X has only 16 notes of Rs.20)

Now, the possible ways of giving Y using both notes of Rs.100 and Rs.20  are

15*20+2*100=500 (since only 16 Rs.20 notes are available we start with 15)

10*20+3*100=500

5*20+4*100=500 (since both denominations should be present we stop here)

Therefore, there are three ways that X can use to make a sum of 500.
