Human B cells and T cells are matured in the bone marrow and thymus respectively.

  • Bone marrow and thymus are the primary lymphoid organs that help in the maturation of T and B cells.
  • T-cells majorly mature in the thymus and lymph nodes.
  • B-cells mature in the bone marrow and lymph nodes.
  • Lymph nodes are secondary lymphoid organs.
  • T cells migrate from bone marrow to the Thymus where only cells capable of distinguishing self and nonself cells survive, to prevent Autoimmunity.
  • Tcell mature into three types:
  1. T-H = T-helper cells
  2. T-C = T-cytotoxic cells
  3. T-suppressor cells
  • B cells proliferate and differentiate into Plasma and memory B cells.
  • Plasma B cells secrete antibodies specific for a particular antigen.
