In hypotonic solution, water molecules are free to pass across the plasma membrane in BOTH DIRECTIONS , more water will enter cell than leave.

In hypotonic soln more water is present outside the cell. So due to conc. gradient water moves from outside to inside but there is always some movement of water from inside too because u cant fix the water molecules inside just because more water molecules are present outside. The water molecules inside too have kinetic enrgy like those outside so when we talk about movement of water in hypo or hypertonic soln we talk about the net movement of molecules because its inappropriate to say water molecules only move outiside or inside.
