(4x+y=34)*4 ...(i)

(x+4y=16)*1 ...(ii)

Subtrating (ii) from (i)

16x+4y=136

x+4y=16

15x = 120

x=8

Putting x=8 in (i)

4x+y=34

4*8+y=34

32+y=34

y=2

Therefore, x=8 & y=2
