In India, the maximum number of workers are employed in the textile industry. It is also the second largest industry in India after the agriculture industry.

The Indian textile industry provided with US$55 billion during 2009-10 which is almost 64% of the total domestic demand.

There are  4,135 textile finishing factories and 2,500 textile weaving factories in India which justifies the number of people working in it.
