Relief rainfall generally occurs when a range of mountains or hills lies in the path of moisture bearing winds.In case of India, the Western Ghats  is an example of relief rainfall as it acts as a barrier. The winds strike against it, rise up, expand, cool down and bring  heavy rainfall
