The National Science Day in India is celebrated on 28th February to mark the discovery of Raman Effect. The discovery was made by the Indian Physicist and Scientist Chandrasekhara Venkat Raman or C V Raman on 28th February 1928.

He won the Noble Prize in 1930 for the Raman Effect on scattering of light. So in his honor, National Science Day is being celebrated every year on 28th February and on 28th February 1987, the first National Science Day was celebrated.
