Roadways have preceded railways because:
1. Roadways provide door to door service.
2. Cars can stop on road anywhere, anytime.
3. Roads can negotiate steep slopes and mountains.
4. Train tracks cannot be laid everywhere.
5. Indian trains run on three tracks, Broad gauge, metre gauge and narrow gauge, so it is quite time consuming to shift from one gauge to other..
