In India, today, all citizens who are 18 years and above can vote. However, after India won her independence, only citizens who were 21 years and above could vote. It was Late Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, who lowered the voting age to 18 years. Share your views on ‘The right age to vote

I think at the age of 16 ,people can mature and understand his needs from government.

The voting age was reduced to 18 from 21 as the then Prime Minister of India Rajeev Gandhi wanted to increase the political participation of the young voters.


These provisions have made the country as the largest democracy of the world.
