There are two forms of Parliamentary democracy - One, Presidential form, Another, Parliamentary form. US has chosen the first model wherein the President is directly elected and hence, empowered. India has chosen the parliamentary form like the UK. In this form neither the Head of the state nor the Head of the Government is elected directly by the people. It is the majority party or an alliance of parties that governs electing a Prime Minister. The President being largely ceremonial. Both have bicameral system with an Upper and a Lower House.
