The process by which insects shed their skin during metamorphosis is called molting. In invertebrates the cuticula is shed and it is called ecdysis. This helps the insect to grow and expand under controlled conditions.

the process is known as molting.
this process helps the insects to shed their original skin and with growth of their body a new and thicker hairy skin is obtained by the process of molting.
moulting not only takes place in insects but also in birds ...due to molting in birds their skin colour changes gradually...dis is y the colour of a younger bird is different from that of an adult bird....molting does not only takes place for skin but also for hair,horns,etc...
