Subject: Literacy beyond midday meals

Dear Sir

The launch of the free midday meal initiative, by the government, for students upto grade 5 is a laudable step in the direction of achieving 100% literacy, but is not enough. There are a multitude of factors that need attention, to change the  vision into reality.

To begin with, the midday meal will ensure greater attendance of students, but food by itself cannot be expected to generate an interest in academics. Learners need to be motivated to be willing to learn, which can be done only through appointing charismatic and outgoing teachers who can interact with families and impress upon them the need for education.

Additionally, the government can give scholarships to students who perform well. People from the economically challenged strata will see education as a means to get extra financial help and will themselves encourage their children to study. It will set a positive circle going.

I urge the government to consider these suggestions for a successful implementation of the literacy campaign.

Yours sincerely

Sir/Ma'am

Subject: Suggesting other factors for literacy program.

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities towards the literacy program run by the Central Government.

Seeing the percentage of the poverty in our nation and focusing on the illiterate people, I believe the government took the right step in order to cease illiteracy. Though these measures and the government's effort achieve immense success, I, as a concerned citizen, strongly feel that the government must consider other factors too.

Firstly, mid-day meal scheme will ensure the students to maintain regular attendance, which i acknowledge, but food cannot be the only choice to fulfill the needs of the family. Alternative sources of earning for poor parents should be provided. Education can be beneficial for the poor people as the child would be at the school and on the other hand both the parents can go outside for their alternative source pf income. It will also help the child to learn better and it can be helpful for their parents in the future. Adult literacy program can also be beneficial so that they could have a basic intelligence about a particular topic in order to have sophisticated etiquettes. For the success of this program, the charismatic volunteers should have better payment, and the government should acknowledge their hard work.

I hope the authorities look into the matter and agree on the point made.

Thanking you

Yours truly
